Summer Camp 2023

Mountain Kids, Incorporated, is excited to return in person for Summer 2023! After three years of limited camp options, we are finally back to offering a full summer of programming! This year, we are thrilled to announce multiple partnerships within the local and regional community to offer an even wider array of summer camp options for children of all ages. Here's what to look forward to this summer:

Ooey Gooey Art Camp - June 19-23 - 9:00AM-3:00PM - Ages 6-12 - $150:

Join us for a week of ooey, gooey fun! Make sure to wear old clothing - this camp is full of all the activities you don't want to do at home. Campers will take a ride down the paint covered slip-n-slide, play in the bubble pit, participate in process art projects, and have a good, fun, messy time. Ooey Gooey Art Camp is for children ages 6-12, and meets daily from 9:00AM-3:00 PM.

Yo Ho, Let's Go! Pirate & Princess Camp - June 26-30 - 9:00AM-3:00PM - Ages 4-8 - $150:

Join us this summer for our first ever, full-day camp for ages 4-8! Princess & Pirate Camp is specifically designed for our youngest campers. Campers will swab the poop deck, hunt for buried treasure, have a tea party with princesses, enjoy dressing-up, and will use their imaginations as the world of pirates and princesses come to life on the farm. These young campers will also be able to participate in age appropriate, traditional camp activities, such as the mini-zipline, tubing, bubble pit, and slip-n-slide. Campers must be potty trained to participate. Children under age 4, or those not fully potty trained prior to the start of camp, may participate with a teen or adult helper.

Stars Camp - July 8 - 9:00AM-9:00PM - All Ages - $25:

A special camp for special friends! This day camp is for children and adults in and around Tazewell County with special needs. Campers will engage in outdoor camp activities, modified to the ability of each camper. A parent or helper must accompany each child to participate. A few of the planned activities include rafting across the river on the Tom Sawyer Float, playing in the bubble pit, and participating in a sing-a-long by the campfire while roasting hotdogs and marshmallows!

Do You Believe in Magic? STEM Camp - July 10-14 - 9:00AM-3:00PM - Ages 9-14 - $150:

Do you believe in magic? Join us for STEM Camp as we make potions, debunk myths, and learn the science behind magic. Campers will explore chemical reactions, make a flame jump, learn about states of matter, create glowing and growing slime, and more! Not all day will be spent in the laboratory - campers will also participate in water activities, hiking, and crafts daily, for the true Mountain Kids Summer Camp experience. Children ages 7-8 with a strong interest in science may join us for this camp with approval from the Summer Camp Director, Emily Noonan. Never Grow Up MAD (Music, Arts, & Drama) Camp - July 17-21 - 9:00AM-3:00PM - Ages 8-12 - $150:

We are so excited to announce that we are partnering with Southwest Virginia Community College's School of the Arts for their annual MAD (music, arts, and drama) Camp! This camp will be held at the college, with a combination of staff from SWCC and MKI. Campers will sing, dance, and act as they prepare a full stage production in one week! Parents, family, and friends are invited to watch the performance on Friday, at the completion of camp. A separate payment link will be sent through email for this camp, and registration information will be shared from MKI to SWCC.

Wet & Wild Camp - July 24-28 - 9:00AM-3:00PM - Ages 6-12 - $150:

Our most popular camp opportunity is Wet & Wild Camp! Join us for a week of water play and adventure. Campers will spend their days in the Clinch River, tubing, kayaking, catching crawdads, fishing, and swimming! Life jackets are required for all campers, regardless of swimming level, for safety. A lifeguard is on site at all times for high adventure water activities. Traditional camp activities, such as crafting, hiking, the slip-n-slide, and singing, are also included throughout the week.

Faith Moves Mountains Camp - July 31-August 4 - 9:00AM-3:00PM - Ages 12-17 - $50:

Join us for our nondenominational youth camp for middle and high school campers. This camp is a collaboration between local businesses, churches, and organizations, as well as, the Holston Home for Children. Throughout the week, campers will participate in high adventure activities, such as the zipline and tubing, while growing closer to God. All meals are provided for this camp, and extended days are offered. MKI camp hours are daily from 9AM-3PM. Beginning at 3PM, local churches will provide activities, dinner, vespers, and a nightly campfire.

Important Information:

Scholarships:

-We will not turn away any child who wishes to participate in summer camp due to financial difficulties;

---Campers may lose their ability to receive scholarships in the future by not participating in camp once funds are awarded.

---If a camp is full, a scholarship will not be awarded. The camper may be placed on the waiting list, and if a space opens, the family will be notified immediately.

-A scholarship application must be completed to be eligible;

-Applications are reviewed by a panel;

---Please wait 14 days before contacting our staff about scholarship awards;

-Scholarship award amounts vary based on the need of the family;

-No monetary value is given to the scholarship awardee - funds are given directly to Mountain Kids;

-All scholarship information is kept confidential;

-Optional masks at the discretion of the parents, unless guidelines from the CDC or state of Virginia deem a change in policy

-Increased cleaning and sanitation practices;
